How to Organize Kids' Toys

With the holidays behind us, it’s likely that you’ve accumulated some new toys. Whether your toy storage solution was in good shape before and you’re struggling to find a place for the new additions, or it’s something you wanted to tackle before but hadn’t gotten around to it, I’ve got some tips to get you where you want to be!

1. Get set up. Find a nice open space in your home where you’ll be able to spread things out. It doesn’t matter if it’s where your kids normally play with their toys or somewhere totally different.

2. Gather toys from anywhere they live in your home into the location you chose in step 1.

3. Empty out all bins, drawers, closets, cabinets etc. EVERYTHING needs to come out!

4. Sort all of the toys, placing like items together.

5. Evaluate what you’ve got (maybe you didn’t realize how much pretend food you have in the play kitchen) and start making some decisions on what to keep and what you no longer need

6. Create a pile for garbage and one for donations as well. Discard anything that has missing or broken pieces, or has just seen better days. Donate items that still have lots of life left in them.

7. Now begin to create homes for all of these items. Start with any existing bins, shelves, and cabinets you’ve got, and purchase any additional storage bins/units if need be.
