How to Organize LEGO
If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that I love sorting LEGO!
When organizing LEGO, or really any kids toys, there are 2 factors I consider before coming up with a storage solution:
(1) Cleanup time - no one likes to feel that cleaning up is taking a long time, especially children
(2) Maintenance - the system needs to work for your family
Here are 3 systems that work when trying to keep your LEGO contained and when I recommend using each one.
One Bin
This is one of my favourite solutions, and the one I recommend to my clients the most often! It works well because cleanup is quick and it's an easy system to maintain. Just toss all the pieces in the bin, no sorting necessary! This is a great system for builders who like to use their imaginations!
Sort by Colour
This system works well when rebuilding sets or building with a specific design in mind (i.e. a vehicle where you'll want matching wheels). Kids who like building this way appreciate the LEGO being sorted by colour and are more likely to maintain it!
Separate by Set
This is great when only wanting to build using instruction manuals. This system makes it easy to keep track of all of the pieces. It also means less mess to start with, since you're only bringing out what you need for that particular set. This makes cleanup fairly quick!
